  • Ma salama Morocco! You are the footballing pride of the Arab people, and for tens of millions of Muslims who supported you from around the world.

You demonstrated your love for Islam, your love for your mothers, and your love for your brothers and sisters in occupied Palestine.

You proved that Morocco can play serious football on the international stage against the best teams in the world, proven in your victories against Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and even during many intervals against France tonight.

You also showed how a football team doesn’t have to be aligned with the (problematic) policies of their governments. Unlike the seven European teams who wanted to force their pro-LGBTQ agenda in accordance with the policies of their governments, you consistently showed solidarity with Palestine while your government normalises relations with the Zionist occupiers. 🏾

You played great football, displayed impeccable character and values off the pitch, and remained principled and consistent in your faith, and your politics. 🏽

This Moroccan team will be lionised and remembered for many years to come.

  • Truck driver and father of seven Mureed Hussain was planning for his daughter’s wedding in October when floodwater inundated his home, washing away the entire back wall and, with it, her hard-earned dowry.

“I had been collecting her dowry for almost three years,” Hussain told AFP, who would put away a couple thousand rupees for her dowry from the 17,000 rupee salary ($80) he makes driving trucks.

Hussain’s village in Punjab province was badly affected, with floodwater destroying or damaging scores of buildings.

When the waters receded, Hussain trudged through the mud and returned to his home with his family, only to discover that the dowry of his daughter Nousheen was badly damaged by the floodwater.

Over the years, his wife Sughra had bought a custom-made bed set and dressing table, as well as a juicer, washing machine, iron, bedsheets and quilts.

“Should we rebuild our house, sow wheat or get our children married? All three things are so important for us.”

Record monsoon rains have caused devastating floods across Pakistan since June, killing more than 1200 people and leaving almost a third of the country under water, affecting the lives of 33 million.

Haji Bektash Veli (1209-1271) or Wali (in the Ottoman Turkish) : حاجی بکتاش ولی. – was a Muslim mystic, saint, Sayyid, and a Sufi Master who was born in Nishapur city of contemporary Khorasan and later migrated to Anatolia where he preached Islamic Faith to the Christian and Turkish masses.

His original name was "Sayyid Muhammad ibn Sayyid Ibrāhim Ātā". He was one of the figures who flourished in the Sultanate of Rum and had an important influence on the Turkish nomads of Asia Minor. He is also referred to as the Sultan of Hearts and the Derwish of the Derwishes. Haji Bektash Veli was a descendant of Sayyidina Musa Al Kazim the Seventh Imam of Ahle Bayt (The Celestial Prophetic Household). And thus his lineage reached back to the Leader of the Youth of Paradise Sayyidina Hussain Ibn Ali, Noble Grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Haji Bektash Veli is rightly considered one of the four poles (Aqtab) of Anatolia by all the Sufi Orders of Anatolia. With the rest being Mevlana Rumi, Shaban-i Veli, and Haji Bayram-i Veli May Allah have mercy upon all.

These four greay Aqtab (singular Qutb a high ranked Sufi and Wali Allah) played a rather instrumental role in the Islamization of Asia Minor or modern Turkey. Selçuk rulers were able to exterminate the Byzantine power in Asia Minor however they cooperated with these great Sufi Masters for spreading Islam all over Anatolia using Sufi culture & Dawah (preaching).

Today, Haji Bektash Veli is falsely perceived as some Alevi figure who had heterodox beliefs. This is a misnomer since the Alevis began to associate with Bektash longtime after he had passed away. Ibn Khallikan (1211 – 1282), was a 13th century Sunni Shafi'i Islamic scholar and historian who reports that the Shi'ite or Alevi tendencies belonged not to him but rather to some of his murids, who took refuge in his Tekke (Sufi Lodge at Suluca Kara Oyuk in Kirşehir. So, in reality Haji Bektash was a Sunni Saint and Sufi Master.

The Ottoman Elite Corp Yeniçeri had a great attachment to Haji Bektash Veli whose name was invoked in official ceremonies. He was seen as the Spiritual Mentor of the Yeniçeri troops. For this reason few of the modern researchers falsely regard the Yeniçeri Corp and its troops to be Shia or Alevi in Faith. But this myth is easily debunked since Yeniçeri were always at the forefront of defending the Ottoman Sunni Creed. During the Safavid Twelver aggression in 1500s, Yeniçeri were alarmed of the dangers of forced spread of Shiaism by Safavid Shah Ismail and thus they supported and helped Ottoman Caliph Yavuz Selim 1 to secure the throne. After this a mighty Persian campaign was launched in which Ottoman military including Yeniçeris laid waste to Safavids at Chaldiran. This is an undeniable historical fact which proves that religious Orientation of Yeniçeris was Orthodox Sunnism same as Ottoman rulers.

May Allah bestow mercy and blessings upon the soul of Sayyid Haji Bektash Veli. May the Divine Nur illumine his grave. Amin

  • Ashura Dates, Balancing Grief of Hussain's ( رحمه الله) Shahadah and Victory of Musa عليه السلام over Pharoah and few misconceptions that we usually see floating around against Sunnies when it comes to #Ashura.

    DATES:
    9th Muharram = 7th August 2022
    10th Muharram = 8th August 2022
    11th Muharram = 9th August 2022
(Dates specific to the USA, please check with your local Masjid)

    ► MISCONCEPTIONS AND LIES
Sunnies do not celebrate Muharram because Hussain (رضي الله عنه) died in this month.

Sunnies do not fast Ashura because we celebrate victory of Caliph Yazeed, those spreading these lies need to seriously fear Allah.

We wish happy Muharram and celebrate this month with "ibadah" because Rasool Allah صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ termed this month as THE MONTH OF ALLAH and encouraged good deeds especially fasting in this blessed month.

    Other important details.

HOW DO I BALANCE MY HAPPINESS AND GRIEF?
► Firstly we follow the Sunnah and try to fast.
    9th Muharram and 10th Muharram
    or
    Just 10th Muharram
    or
    10th and 11th Muharram
    or
    9th-10th-11th Muharram

► Next we do not participate in any type of mourning that is not Islamic. Howling, beating self, cutting self etc. As Muslims we mourn with dignity and grace. The best way to celebrate the legacy of Imam Hussain (رضي الله عنه) is by being righteous, just and to stand firm on the deen he gave away his life for.

That would be true upholding of his legacy and not just in the month of Muharram but every single day and every second of our lives.

► Do not get into Shia and Sunni debates on Ashura. That is the last thing you should be doing. This day is sacred and should be spent in Ibadah and seeking Allah's forgiveness and not in pumping our egos debating who is right and who is wrong.

Everyone has their own brains and intellect to learn what is right and wrong. It's between them and Allah and it applies to both Shias and Sunnies.

► Sit and reflect on the state of your eeman. Are you just a Muharram and Ramadan Muslim or are a true Muslim throughout the year.

Both incidents, that of Prophet Musa (عليه السلام) and Imam Hussain (رضي الله عنه) remind us of how truth always wins if not in this world then in akhira. And how important it is as a Muslim to fight for Haqq even if you have to give your life for it or even if you have to stand against the world's most powerful tyrant Firawn/Pharaoh.

This Ashura promise yourself to be more righteous and promise yourself to follow our pious predecessors everyday and every breath of your lives.

The day of Ashura, the 10th of Muharram. It is a special day for the Muslim world, because we have been commanded to fast on it to commemorate the blessings of Allah upon Musa (Moses) عليه السلام and his followers when they were saved from the Pharaoh. Fasting on that day forgives the sins of the previous year.

The tragedy of the martyrdom of Husayn (r) happens to coincide with this day. This tragedy, which occurred 5 decades after the the death of our beloved Prophet (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ), is a historical one, not a theological one.

Our hearts grieve that such an evil murder was committed, due to political greed and lust for power by the Caliph Yazeed. But our religion of Islam was not made, altered, or modified by the events of that day.

Rather, more than 50 years before this, on the Day of the Farewell Pilgrimage, Allah had revealed in the Quran
❝..Today, I have perfected your religion for you, and completed My Favors upon you, and chosen Islam as your way of life..❞
    {Surah Al Ma'idah 5 : Verse 3}

THE DAY OF ASHURA IS A DAY OF WORSHIP, NOT A DAY OF MOURNING.

And remember to be pious whilst being empathetic and non judgmental towards others.

❝You might come across a person who is not fasting on #Ashura, so beware that you admire your fasting and belittle his! Him not fasting is permissible and your self-admiration is prohibited. He could be busy or have an excuse greater than the reward of your fasting.❞
    - Dr. Omar Al-Muqbil

May Allah accept our Ibadah, forgive our shortcomings and give us clean slates - Allahumma ameen. 🏽

Unfortunately, the general aversion of the Muslim masses towards history has resulted in the sheer ignorance about real stance of Sayyidina #Hussain Ibn Ali and the reasons which compelled him to utterly refuse giving Bayah (allegiance) to Yazid 1 the accursed. The commonplace view is that this was a mere power struggle as Hussain wanted to attain the temporal power (i.e Khilafah). However, this is far away from the truth.

In reality, Hussain Ibn Ali rejected Yazid primarily since latter had totally abrogated the Pristine Sharia by terming Quran as the myths of the ancients. It is well recorded in Classical Sunni literature that Yazid mocked Sharia and made the unlawful lawful. A few examples include Yazid allowing consumption of alcohol in which he regularly engaged in and also crossing all limits by declaring sexual relations with sisters to be permissible. Indeed, he was aiming at nothing short but to revive Arab Age of Ignorance or paganism which he loved as Faith of his ancestors.

Classical Sunni historian Ibn Khatheer (d 1373) states the following on the wretched Yazid :

"Traditions inform us that Yazeed loved worldly vices, would drink, listen music, kept the company of boys with no facial hair [civil expression for paedophilia with boys], played drums, kept dogs [civil expression for bestiality], making frogs, bears and monkeys fight. Every morning he used be intoxicated and use to bind monkey with the saddle of a horse and make the horse run".

Reference:Al Bidayah Wal Nihayah, Vol 8 Page 1169

Imam Ibn Hajjar Asqalani a prominent Sunni scholar of the 16th century writes about Yazid:

Loving and glorifying him Yazid is not done “except by a heretic ” who has void belief because Yazid had such characteristics that his lover deserves to be faithless, because to love and hate just for the sake of God is a sign of faith. [Book name: al-Imta bil al-Arba'in al-Matbainatus Samah (الإمتاع بالأربعين المتباينة السماع), Author: Imam Ibn Hajr al Asqalani (rah), Publication date: 1997, Page No. 96]

Under these problematic circumstances, it was surely the responsibility of Hussain ibn Ali to work for the reformation of both the Faith and state. It is well known that certain senior Companions had a different view on the situation. However, it needs to be understood that their Ijtihad was based upon their own research and reports. Yazid was a very cunning individual who had used deceptive tactics. To some delegations he appeared as a steadfast Muslim only to cause division and secure loyalty.

However, the view of others is rejected. Hussain had the deepest insight and was able to make sense of the reality using his high abilities. He understood that a evil and wretched person like Yazid wasn't fit for ruling the great Muhammadan nation. Reason why he didn't make Mecca or Medina the base of his mission was that he abhorred bloodshed in Holy Sanctuaries. Even though Abdullah ibn Abbas (paternal cousin) and Abdullah ibn Zubayr had persisted Hussain ibn Ali to remain in Mecca and use popular support. However, Hussain decided to head out to Kufa since he had received hundreds of letters from them to help them against tyrants.

As it occurred, the majority Kufans turned out to be sell outs except a handful of individuals. The very people who had written incessantly to Hussain were now opposing him with spears and swords. Indeed, Hussain showed these letters to these people who refused to acknowledge the truth. One of Hussain's companions suggested that they attack Hurr and move to the fortified village of al-Aqr. But Hussain refused, stating that he will not start the hostilities.

Hurr had originally intercepted the Prophetic Family (Ahl Al Bayt) but had respect for them. Later when Hussain ibn Ali delivered a sermon about his stance, lineage, and unrivalled merits, Hurr was moved and joined the camp of Hussain. The wretched dog Ibn Ziyad the governor of Kufa then sent Ibn Saad and Shimr to ensure that the Prophetic Family was made to experience torture by stopping their water supply.

Ibn Ziyad was working at orders from Yazid who desperately wanted allegiance from Hussain in order to legitimise his rule. By denying water to the camp of Hussain ibn Ali, they had thought that he would be forced to submit. However, even days of hunger & no hydration didn't budge Hussain.

The battle was purposely prolonged by Ibn Saad, from sunrise to sunset, as he wanted to somehow make Hussain give in to their demands of paying Yazid allegiance. Imagine if Hussain had done so, it would simply right every wrong of Yazid and would set an example of legitimising heretical rulers for ages to come but of course Hussain Ibn Ali would never betray his Noble Grandfather. Instead, his Lion like spirit refused to bow despite facing all kinds of brutalities. We know thar Prophet Jacob had only lost his son Yusuf and this resulted in Jacob losing his eyesight due to endless weeping. But here we see Hussain sacrificing two of his sons, six of his paternal brothers, three sons of Hasan ibn Ali, three sons of Jafar ibn Abi Talib and three sons and three grandsons of Aqil ibn Abi Talib. Yet, his resolve was unshaken and after losing his dearest ones he led Jihad e Qitaal alone. It is related that in single duels, Hussain the lion of the lion of Allah had fiercely killed many of the renowned warriors and thus managed to instill fear in the hearts of the enemies.

Finally, the accursed enemies decided to change the strategy and launched an all out attack against Our Master Sayyidina Hussain Ibn Ali.

Sayyidna Hussain was severely injured under the barrage of arrows and still kept fighting and sending few enemies to hell. But after fatal wounds he slowed down and was made to dismount from his horse. Sayyidina Hussain Ibn Ali then did Sajdah e Shukar (Prostration of thanks) since he upheld the values of Islam, the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the Blessed way of the Rightly Guided Caliphs of Islam despite sacrificing his family. It is said that a man named Sinan the accursed made the final blow by severing the head of Sayyidina Hussain Ibn Ali from his blessed body.

May Allah forgive us all for the sake of Ahle Bayt Kareemain and their devoted sacrifices for Islam. And the Immaculate Companions of the Prophet Peace be upon him.

Surely, the struggle of Hussain ibn Ali RadiAllah Anhu cannot he separated from the struggle of Sayyidina RasulAllah Muhammad ﷺ who said:

Tirmidhi (3775), Ibn Maajah (144) and Ahmad (17111) from Ya‘la ibn Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Husayn is part of me and I am part of him. May Allaah love those who love Husayn. Husayn is one of my grandsons.”

Reference:Al Bidayah Wal Nihayah, Vol 8 Page 1169 Imam Ibn Hajjar Asqalani a prominent Sunni scholar of the 16th century writes about Yazid: Loving and glorifying him Yazid is not done “except by a heretic ” who has void belief because Yazid had such characteristics that his lover deserves to be faithless, because to love and hate just for the sake of God is a sign of faith. [Book name: al-Imta bil al-Arba'in al-Matbainatus Samah (الإمتاع بالأربعين المتباينة السماع), Author: Imam Ibn Hajr al Asqalani (rah), Publication date: 1997, Page No. 96] Under these problematic circumstances, it was surely the responsibility of Hussain ibn Ali to work for the reformation of both the Faith and state. Surely, the struggle of Hussain ibn Ali RadiAllah Anhu cannot he separated from the struggle of Sayyidina RasulAllah Muhammad ﷺ who said: Tirmidhi (3775), Ibn Maajah (144) and Ahmad (17111) from Ya‘la ibn Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Husayn is part of me and I am part of him. May Allaah love those who love Husayn. Husayn is one of my grandsons.” Main source: Al Bidayah Wal Nihayah by Imam ibn Khatheer Rahimullah, a Classical Orthodox Sunni Imam, exegete, & historian. #Allah #Muhammad #Hussain #Karbala #Sunni #Ashura #Muharram #IslamicHistory
