Messi understood and revelled in the deep honour of the garment that he was presented with and wore it with pride, but it is shocking to see so many western media outlets and well-known commentators marking the moment with ignorant and outright racist headlines.

It was such an incredible opportunity to learn about the beauty and traditions of Arab culture. Then, we’d realise that our cultures are more interlinked than we thought.
