So let’s prepare ourselves by doing righteous deeds in Rajab, and pay extra attention to making them perfect in Sha‘baan, so that he will be able to do them in a perfect manner in Ramadan.

The scholars refer to this idea in several ways, including the following:

it was said that Rajab is for a person to stop drifting away, Sha‘baan is for striving and sincerity, and Ramadan is for truthfulness and purity.

Rajab is the month of repentance, Sha‘baan is the month of love, and Ramadan is the month of closeness to Allah.

Rajab is the month of sanctity, Sha‘baan is the month of service, and Ramadan is the month of blessing.

Rajab is the month of worship, Sha‘baan is the month of turning away from this world, and Ramadan is the month of increase.

Rajab is the month in which Allah multiplies the reward of good deeds, Sha‘baan is the month of expiating bad deeds, and Ramadan is the month of waiting for gifts and honours.

Rajab is the month of those who are excelling, Sha‘baan is the month of those whose progress is moderate, and Ramadan is the month of the sinners [in which they can mend their ways].

    Allahumma balighna Ramadan!

  • Corporal Hasan from Türkiye’s Igdir province was part of the Ottoman army’s heavy machine gun team and guarded Jerusalem for 65 years until his death in 1982. The corporal was one of 53 deployed troops entrusted with safeguarding the Al Aqsa Mosque in order to preserve “the honour of Islam” and the “glory of the Ottomans.”

The World War I veteran belonged to the 20th Corps, 36th Battalion, 8th Squadron and never wavered from his promise to his lieutenant to protect Al Aqsa Mosque.

He was one of the rearguard soldiers stationed in Jerusalem — Al Quds in Arabic — by the Ottoman army to prevent pillage and to maintain order and safety.

According to tradition, the victor of a war never treats rearguard troops as war captives in a captured city. So when British troops entered Jerusalem and wanted a small force to stay in the city to avoid a potentially negative public reaction, Corporal Hasan remained.

No Turk had heard of Corporal Hasan until 1972, when Turkish journalist Ilhan Bardakci visited Jerusalem and met with him when the soldier was 90 years old.

The sole remaining guardian told Bardakci: “Only I am left here. Just me, a Corporal Hasan in the grand Quds.”

  • The Tomb of Jahangir:

Nur-ud-din Muhammad Salim ‘Jahangir’ (31 August 1569 – 28 October 1627); ruled from 1605 until his death in 1627. He was the only great Mughal who is not buried in India apart from the founder of Mughal Empire Babur, buried in Kabul.

The emperor was ill, it was suggested by the Royal physicians that to recover from ill health he should visit Kabul and Kashmir. Due to cold weather in Kashmir he decided to move to Lahore. On the way to Lahore he died in the foothills of Kashmir near the town of Rajauri on 28 October 1627. A funeral procession transferred his body from Kashmir and arrived in Lahore on Friday, 12 November 1627. The Dilkusha Garden in which he was buried was a "favourite spot" of Jahangir and his wife Nur Jahan, when they lived in Lahore. His son, the new Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, ordered that a "mausoleum befitting an Emperor" should be built in his father's honour to inter his remains.

His tomb is one of the magnificent example of Mughal art and architecture. There is some controversy who supervised the design, wife of the Emperor Nur Jahan or the son Shah Jahan. Both had very good eye on architectural design. Beautiful precious and semi-precious stones were used to beautify the grave with the ninety nine attributes of Allah are also engraved here.

The tomb suffered a great deal of destruction at the hand of Maharajah Ranjeet Singh who stripped the ornaments off the tomb and sent them to Amritsar in order to decorate a Sikh temple. The tomb was also used as the residence of a Sikh army officer of Spanish origin and Sultan Muhammad Khan, brother of Dost Muhammad khan of Kabul, caused great damage to the mausoleum.
