• 16 years on from their famous 3-2 win over the Czech Republic, Türkiye will attempt to recreate that historic moment which saw them win and advance to the final 16.

At their Euro 2008 game in Geneva, Türkiye came back from 2 goals down to ultimately win the match.

Arda Turan’s goal in the 75th minute and a double from Nihat Kahveci in the 87 and 89th minutes helped the Crescent Stars finish second in their 2008 group.

Türkiye would go on to beat Croatia in a penalty shootout during their quarter-finals match before ultimately losing 3-2 to Germany in the semi-finals.

  • Arda Güler is a record breaker.

His goal against Georgia means he is now the youngest player to score on his debut at the European Championship finals (19 years and 114 days), taking the record from Cristiano Ronaldo.

He also created five chances during the game, which is the joint-most by a teenager at the European Championship on record (since 1980), along with Pedri v Switzerland in 2021 and Wayne Rooney v Croatia in 2004.

He is going to be some player.

Starting his journey from France on foot, Neil Dauxois received a warm welcome from many Palestinians when he arrived at Al Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

The 26-year-old French Muslim of Algerian descent completed a 10-month journey covering a distance of 3,900 kilometres.

He passed through Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Türkiye, Cyprus and Jordan to reach his destination.

“My mother was worried, but after seeing me in videos on social media, she told me she was proud of me,” the young Muslim said, adding that his next goal is “to go for Hajj to Mecca in a month and a half.”
