"Learning from the competition"
Suez Canal being a vital maritime route that handles 20% of all global trade was the subject of several attempts of creating an alternative route by neighboring countries.
These alternatives were based around creating train routes connecting ports on the Mediterranean to ports on the Red Sea in different areas of the middle east to avoid Suez canal or at least join this high foreign currency cash cow.
Egypt worked on two different fronts to counter this plan. One was upgrading the Suez canal's capacity, depth and dig two way canals. The second was to implement the idea for this alternative suggested by the competition.
Ports of Sokhna (Red Sea) and Dekhelia (Mediterranean) were upgraded and now being connected by high speed cargo train line.
