Argentina won its 16th Copa America title on Sunday night at Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium, beating Colombia 1-0, with striker Lautaro Martinez scoring the winning goal in the 112th minute.

In a match that started 1 hour and 22 minutes late because of security and crowd issues, Argentina won its third straight major title following the 2021 Copa America and 2022 World Cup.

Tears preceded the celebrations, though, as Argentina captain Lionel Messi was injured in the 66th minute and spent the rest of the match on the bench, while winger Angel Di Maria had an emotional farewell in his last game for the national team.

A night of joy for Argentina was a night of disappointment for Colombia, who had won their only title in the 2001 Copa America and were unbeaten in 28 matches leading up to Sunday’s final.

Millions of Muslims around the world unite to perform the Eid al Adha prayer on June 16, kicking off celebrations for one of the two most important holidays in the Islamic calendar.

Hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world are celebrating to mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The first day of Eid is a time of celebration, gathering and feasting for many. Despite some differences in how it’s marked, Eid is celebrated among all Muslims.

Here are some traditions upheld on Eid day:

A small community of displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza’s Rafah break their fast in a mass iftar, the evening meal during Ramadan.

The usual celebrations during the Muslim holy month are absent across Palestine’s Gaza amid Israel’s brutal onslaught. Palestinians are facing acute shortages of food and clean water due to Israel obstructing international aid from entering the besieged enclave.

While a scant amount of aid trucks are sustaining the population in Rafah, Israeli authorities have informed UNRWA they will no longer allow lifesaving deliveries to be made to northern Gaza, where Palestinians are now facing catastrophic levels of hunger.

Palestinian authorities say Israel’s decision to bar aid “will deepen the famine and murders through starvation and thirst.”

With ceasefire talks at a standstill, the hunger and humanitarian crises worsening across the enclave, and no end in sight to the five months of constant Israeli bombardment, the Muslim holy month of Ramadan has arrived in Palestine’s Gaza.

During Ramadan this year, many Palestinians already struggling with hunger are breaking their fast amid the rubble of demolished buildings in Gaza where food shortages – a direct result of the Israeli onslaught – have become more acutely felt with the start of Ramadan.

Even where food is available, there is little beyond canned food, and the prices of already scarce food are too high for many, in contrast to previous years when families would ordinarily break their daily fasts with feasts.

"We made no preparations to welcome Ramadan because we have been fasting for five months now," said Maha, a mother of five, who would normally have decorated her home and stocked her refrigerator with supplies for the evening iftar celebrations, when people break their fast.

Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) is an unique character in Russian folklore and an essential personage of the Russian New Year’s celebration. The roots of this character can be found in Slavic pagan beliefs. According to legends, she is a daughter of Father Frost and Mother Spring. But in her most recognizable form, she is the granddaughter and companion of Ded Moroz (Granddaddy Frost - Russian Santa Claus). She helps Ded Moroz deliver gifts to children during the New Year celebration. In Russian fairy-tales, she is young and beautiful, and she always travels with Ded Moroz on a horse-drawn sledge. She is said to live deep in the winter forest. More often, Snegurochka wears a silver-blue robe and a furry cap or crown adorned with silver and pearls. Snegurochka's name is derived from the Russian word for snow - sneg.
