Poor weather conditions in Gaza’s Rafah have worsened the suffering of the displaced Palestinian families who were forced from their homes and are now sheltering in overcrowded tents.
Very few families have proper tents, with many left to make do with tarpaulin or thin, transparent plastic, neither of which can adequately protect people and their belongings from strong winds, downpours or floods.
Israel’s ongoing offensive has left 85 percent of Gaza’s population internally displaced amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
