  • The Büyük Mecidiye or Ortaköy Mosque is easy to appreciate and hard to forget. Painted in opulent shades of crimson, blue, and green and glistening with gold calligraphy, the mosque will have you filled with affection for its grandeur and opulent decoration.

Pro tip: With its unique location under one side of the Bosphorus Bridge, the Ortaköy Mosque is one of the best photography spots in İstanbul. You (and your camera roll) can thank us later.

  • 112 journalists…

…and while we were preparing the news for January 10, Working Journalists’ Day, another Palestinian journalist has just been killed by an Israeli strike, which brings the number of journalists killed since October 7 to 113, as far as we could verify.

As journalists in Gaza covering Israel’s onslaught are increasingly at risk of arrest, harassment and shadowbanning, many are being injured and even killed.

  • Nijerya'da kumaşlar, Kofar Mata boya kuyularında geleneksel yöntemlerle renklendiriliyor. Önce "İndigo" ağacından elde edilen boya yüzyıllık kuyularda, içerisine kül ve bazı katkı maddeleri eklenerek birkaç ay mayalanmaya bırakılıyor. Daha sonra boyanacak kumaşlar, mavinin her tonunu içeren kuyulara batırılıp kurutma işlemine tabi tutuluyor.

In Nigeria, fabrics are traditionally dyed using ancient methods in the Kofar Mata indigo pits. First, dye is obtained from the "Indigo" tree and left to ferment for several months in century-old pits, with the addition of ashes and certain additives. Subsequently, the fabrics to be dyed are immersed in the pits containing various shades of blue, followed by a drying process.
