VORONYA MAĞARASI Dünyanın merkezine en yakın nokta olan Voronya Mağarası. Jules Verne'in 1864 tarihli "Dünyanın Merkezine Yolculuk" adlı romanında en çok arzuladığı hayallerden biri, Dünya'nın içlerine girmekti. Veryovkina Mağarası bizi bu derinliklere götürmese de gezegenin merkezine bilinen en yakın noktaya ulaşmamızı sağlıyor. Veryovkina Mağarası yaklaşık 2.212 metre derinliğiyle dünyanın en derin mağarasıdır. Resmi olarak Gürcistan'ın bir parçası ilan edilen bağımsız bir devlet olan Abhazya bölgesindeki Krepost ve Zont dağları arasındaki geçitte yer almaktadır. 1968 yılında mağara, 115 metre derinliğe ulaşmayı başaran Krasnoyarsk şehrinden bazı mağarabilimciler tarafından keşfedildi. 1986 yılında Moskova'dan Oleg Parfenov liderliğindeki yeni bir grup 440 metrelik olağanüstü derinliğe ulaştı. 2015'ten bu yana, Perovo-Speleo grubu tarafından gerçekleştirilen bir dizi yeni baskın, mağaranın daha derin olduğunu, Mart 2018'de rekor 2.212 metreye ulaşana ve 6.000 metreden fazla bir yer altı tünel sistemini kaydedene kadar sürekli olarak yeni ve daha iyi işaretlere ulaştığını belirledi.
