  • The wait is over, this isn't a render, this is FINALLY the real 2024 Dodge Charger and it'll be on sale in just a few months! What's new? Well, everything. The HEMI is dead, the Hurricane is offshore, it's a 3-door!? The sedan and coupe will both be called Charger! Say what? AND, it's ENORMOUS! Let's dive into Dodge's announcement!

First up: as I kept telling you all, the Charger won't just be an EV, so let's start there first. The same 3.0L "Hurricane" twin-turbo inline-6 found in the RAM and Wagoneer will live under this hood wearing (I kid you not) SIXPACK badging. The Sixpack SO is good for 420 horsepower and should deliver performance better than the outgoing Hemi 392 while the Sixpack HO will crank out 550 horsepower and be the most powerful version of this engine so far. At this point, that's about all we know because the gasoline Charger won't be on sale until early 2025, but bet on AWD being an option... Also on sale in 2025? The 4-door Charger, so stay tuned for that one.

What's on sale soon? That'd be the 2-door... Er, I mean 3-door Charger you see here. Don't let that familiar profile fool you however, this is no re-skinned 2023. The coupe will ring in at an insane 206.6 inches long. That's almost a foot longer than the 2023 Challenger and *longer* than a BMW X7 3-row SUV. How big will the sedan be? I don't know, but I hope it's a boat. Seriously, I love big sedans.

Under the body we find a 442V, 100.5 kWh lithium ion pack powering twin electric motors rated at 250 kW each. The total output is software determined and will be 456, 496, 630, or 670 horsepower depending on the trim and options. That will allow for a 4.7 to 3.3 second 0-60 sprint, a 1/4 mile in as little as 11.5, and a top speed of 137 MPH. Charging seems intriguingly quick despite the less than flashy 183 kW peak rate. Dodge is saying a 10-80% charge will take just 30 minutes which puts this on par with a Tesla Model S Plaid's charge time.

Stopping will be handled by ENORMOUS 16.1 inch ventilated rotors front and rear with huge calipers and pads. (Remember, it's heavy thanks to that battery pack: nearly 5,900 lbs). Tires? Equally bonkers. The top trim will get 305/35R20s up front and 325/35R20s in the back *and* the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3
is anything but a low rolling resistance tire. The toll? Range. We don't have figures for the track pack model yet but the others will range from 317-260 miles depending on the tires you select.

The interior is, as you'd expect, much, much bigger than a Mustang. Legroom is more than many mid-sized SUVs and the cargo area us nearly 23 cubic feet. Dodge says the hatchback design will let you fit an extra set of wheels and tires in the back for track day.

The logo? That's new/old. Dodge used to call it a Fratzog (apparently its just a name they made up) but it dates back to the 1960s and 1970s. It seems that changing your logo every decade is a Dodge tradition. Sorry //, it was fun while it lasted.

How much will it cost? That's anyone's guess but expect the EVs to be expensive and the upcoming gas models to stick much closer to 2023 Challenger pricing. What do you think? Should they have changed the name?
