  • At least 35,000 people have been killed by Israel in its war on Palestine’s Gaza since last October.

Seventy percent of them have been babies, children and women, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Many thousands of others are still missing, presumed to be dead under the rubble of Gaza.

According to the United Nations, Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza has internally displaced 85% of the territory’s population. The enclave is also suffering from acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine – a direct result of Israel’s crippling blockade on the besieged territory – with 60% of Gaza’s infrastructure damaged or destroyed.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.

  • The Venice of the Middle East: Iraq.

Floating Houses and the Story of Treasure in the Marshes Region Ahvar in southern Iraq; Ahvar is the region where communities called Ma’dan and Swamp Arabs live.

This region, which is said to date back 5 thousand years, is also known as the “Garden of Paradise”. The region, which is defined as the Venice of the Middle East, is the place referred to by some as the “Garden of Eden” in the Bible.

The architectural wonders of the floating houses in the region are called “Mudhif”.
However, the region has come to the point of extinction due to the political conflicts.

Located at the meeting point of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the Marshes Region is the largest in the Middle East.
The floating houses, built on a platform without nails, boards and glass, are made of mud and reed.

This construction technique, which has been used for thousands of years by the people living in the region, is on the verge of extinction today.
The people in the region, which is in danger of extinction due to the drying policy, had to migrate.

  • Malé, Capital City of Maldives

    The City's area is estimated as 8.3 Sq.KMs; that's about 830 Hectares

Simply, if the City was a perfect Square, it would measure 2.9 KMs in length (and width)

Despite its small size in area, the City is home to 211,908 people; and hence,

It's population density is estimated as 25,421 Sq.KMs,

It's the world's most densely populated Capital City

Now, if the Word was to live as dense as Malé, then the entire global population can fit in Zimbabwe

The City doesn't have a mountain, and it's highest elevation is estimated as 2.4 Meters above sea level

Despite its small size, Maldives received nearly 1.9 Million Tourists in 2023, majority being from Russia , India and China

The country is home to 176 resorts, 809 guesthouses, and 14 hotels, and is attractive to all budgets, with a wide variety of accommodation options

  • The UN top court has ordered Israel to take all measures within its power to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza.

The International Court of Justice in its interim order on Friday also ordered Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in the besieged enclave.

The court said it has jurisdiction to rule over emergency measures, adding it would not throw out genocide case as Israel requested.

It noted Palestinians appear to be a protected group under the Genocide Convention, emphasising it recognises the right of Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from acts of genocide.

On Dec. 29, South Africa filed a lawsuit with the ICJ requesting an injunction against Israel on the grounds that Israel's attacks on Gaza violate the Genocide Convention.

Among the measures South Africa requested was an immediate halt to Israel's brutal offensive, which has laid waste to much of the enclave and killed more than 26,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities.

It also requested that the ICJ grant an injunction due to the urgency of the situation. Following the completion of hearings on January 11-12, the court began deliberations after examining the parties' submissions and evidence.

  • “Israel has engaged in, is engaging in and risks further engaging in genocidal acts against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

South Africa is taking legal action to halt Israel’s aggressive military offensive in Palestine’s Gaza, filing a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Tel Aviv of breaching the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

On December 29, the country filed a petition with the ICJ to initiate genocidal proceedings against Tel Aviv, a move that comes after South Africa suspended relations with Israel on November 21 in response to the Israeli army’s intensified attacks on Gaza.

Cape Town requested that Israel immediately cease all acts and measures in violation of its obligations as a signatory to the 1948 Genocide Convention. The convention defines genocide as acts, such as killings, that are “committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.”

South Africa will present its case at the ICJ in The Hague on January 11. Israel — which has rejected the genocide accusation, claiming it lacks a legal foundation and constitutes a “despicable and contemptuous exploitation” of the court — will then present its defence on January 12.

Cape Town, which has been a the forefront of Israeli criticism, has long supported the Palestinian movement for freedom, drawing parallels between the plight of the Palestinians to its own struggle with apartheid.

  • “Israel has the right to defend itself.”

This statement has been emphatically reiterated by world leaders globally after Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel on October 7. In the aftermath of the attack, Israel began its ferocious bombardment of Palestine’s besieged Gaza, killing thousands and rendering the majority of the enclave inhabitable.

With the excessive number of civilian casualties growing each day, legal experts are coming forward to debunk the claim that Israel’s measures of “self-defence” are within the confines of international law.
