In an effort to draw attention to the children killed in brutal Israeli attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, nearly 500 pairs of children’s shoes were placed in front of the Fountain of Ahmed III in Istanbul, Türkiye, on November 21.

Next to the shoes were photographs of some of the children who lost their lives as a result of Israel's relentless onslaughts on the besieged enclave, in addition to a banner that read: "Israel kills five children every hour.”

Tulay Gokcimen, spokesperson for the Palestine Initiative — the group behind the call to action to “Walk for Palestinian Children” — explained that the display was strategically organised so that passersby would encounter the shoes on their way to work or school.

"This is a walking path, as you can see; we made a walking path out of shoes. At the end of the path, we say: 'The lives of Gazan children were only enough to walk this path, because Israel massacred them. From now on, you must walk the rest of the path for them.’”

Israel's ongoing war on Palestinians in blockaded Gaza — now in its 46th day — has killed over 13,300 Palestinians since October 7, 5,600 of whom were children.
