A Korean artist has expressed condolences to earthquake-ravaged Türkiye with an illustration recalling wartime unity between two “brother nations”.

In 1950, Türkiye responded to a call from the UN to help South Korea and sent troops after North Korea invaded Seoul. Türkiye lost more than 700 military personnel in action.

Fast forward to today, in the wake of the devastating earthquakes that hit southeastern Türkiye, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol became one of the first world leaders to offer the country help, describing it as a “brother nation” that fought alongside South Korea during wartime.

President Yoon Suk Yeol has sent a disaster relief team, including 118 rescue workers and troops to support search and rescue operations in Türkiye. It is the largest emergency response team South Korea has dispatched overseas in a single day, according to South Korean Yohnap News Agency.
