  • What an astonishing photograph! It's the first time I've seen such a scene. A little bird falls out of its nest., only to be caught by its mother, with the father providing support. Immense thanks to the photographer for capturing this incredible moment.

  • A woodpecker preparing for winter starts by finding a dead tree and meticulously making holes to store acorns. Each hole is carefully crafted; if it's too large, other birds can easily steal the acorns, and if it's too small, the acorns can break and spoil. By the end of summer, the woodpecker's precise work is complete. The ripened acorns are placed in the holes, with a single large tree trunk capable of holding around 50,000 acorns, ensuring the bird has enough food for a satisfying winter

  • Evil Sunrise:
These images were captured in the coastal city of Al Wakrah, Qatar, on the morning of December 26, 2019, when an annular eclipse was in progress.

The photographer chose a place with an open horizon where he got a perfect view of the eclipsed sun emerging from the sea. When the sun finally began to rise, it looked like two separate pieces, some sort of red horns piercing the sea. It soon took the form of a crescent, with the ‘Etruscan vase’ inferior mirage effect visible.

Due to its shape, the phenomenon was nicknamed the ‘Evil Sunrise.

  • The lighter penguin is an elderly female whose partner died this year. The darker one is a younger male who lost his partner two years ago. Biologists have followed them as they meet every night to comfort each other. They stand for hours together watching the lights. Photographer Tobias Baumgaertner captured this image of two widowed fairy penguins looking over the Melbourne skyline. It has won an award in Oceanographic magazine’s Ocean Photography Awards 2020.
