  • One of the most special times of the year for Muslims, the Holy month of Ramadan means sharing, family gatherings and worshipping.

    But this year, Ramadan carries a different meaning, along with mixed feelings of mourning and longing for those who lost their family members, relatives and homes when massive earthquakes hit southern Türkiye on February 6.

    Many survivors across several provinces celebrated Ramadan’s first sahur or suhoor — the last meal before a day of fasting that begins before sunrise — in tents, container cities, meal centres, and a ship-turned-shelter.
